Our educational philosophy

Why we teach the way we do

We believe education is far more than the transfer of information — it is how a girl discovers her own voice, her worth, and her power to shape the world around her. Every choice we make is guided by that conviction.
So we teach with warmth, patience, and high expectations. We honour each student’s dignity, meet her exactly where she is, and build the confidence and critical thinking she needs to carry learning far beyond any single lesson.

🕊️

Education as liberation

Learning is a right and a path to freedom — never a privilege to be earned.

💛

The whole girl

We nurture character, resilience, and wellbeing alongside academics.

🌟

High expectations, deep care

We believe in every student’s potential and support her to reach it.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked

No. Daughters of Freedom is completely free. Tuition, learning materials, and mentorship are provided at no cost to any student or family.

Every student completes a short, informal assessment in math, reading, and English before starting, so she’s placed at the right level for her, not just her age. This ensures she’s genuinely supported and appropriately challenged from day one.

We’re committed to ensuring every graduate holds a diploma genuinely recognized for university admission and further education, in Afghanistan and beyond. We’re actively working toward full international accreditation and are pursuing partnerships in the meantime to formally recognize students’ academic work as we build toward that goal, and we’ll share updates as each milestone is reached.

Both — live classes are the core teaching method, held via Zoom, with mandatory attendance, so students learn together in real time with their teacher and classmates. Every class is also recorded and made available afterward for review, so a student can revisit a lesson or catch up if she misses a session.

Every teacher and volunteer goes through an application, interview, and identity verification process before joining Daughters of Freedom. All staff complete safeguarding training — covering child protection, online safety, and trauma-informed communication, and agree to a strict code of conduct before ever working directly with students.

Our program is designed for real conditions on the ground, including unreliable internet and electricity, so no advanced technology or prior experience is required to begin. Lessons are also available as downloadable worksheets and recordings, and our Digital Literacy curriculum helps every student build comfort and confidence with the tools she’ll use to learn.

No student is ever left to fall behind on her own. Teachers and mentors regularly check in on each student’s progress, and any girl who’s struggling is offered extra help sessions, one-on-one mentor support, and simplified materials where needed. Support at Daughters of Freedom isn’t just academic; it’s built to keep every student encouraged, confident, and motivated to keep going.

Yes. Beyond scheduled classes, students have access to academic help sessions, peer discussion groups, mentor check-ins, and advisory sessions, so support is available well beyond class time. This system is built not just to help academically, but to keep every student feeling confident, encouraged, and motivated.

We actively monitor each student’s engagement, attendance, and wellbeing, so if something seems off, our team reaches out; families don’t have to wait or wonder. If you ever have a concern yourself, you’re always welcome to contact us directly, and any safety-related concern is reviewed promptly by our safeguarding team.

Yes. We welcome partnerships with nonprofits, educational institutions, and organizations that share our commitment to expanding access to education for girls in Afghanistan. Visit our Get Involved page to start that conversation.
